How has everyone’s Saturday been?? Weekends can be really, really tough to stay focused, trust me, I know! Especially at the beginning of creating a new habit or going after a new goal. The routine you’ve just gotten set gets tossed up in the air and especially around this time of year there are so many get-togethers all with booze and food – am I right?
So here’s the thing…THIS is when you keep your WHY, the reason you decided to start making whatever change you’re focusing on in the forefront of your mind. You have to measure every treat against your long term goals – your dreams.
I once knew a woman who had a dream dress she wanted to fit into. You know, that one that you felt HOT in a couple years ago that you can’t fit into? Yeah, that one. And she had, like many of us, tried many times to lose some weight and she kept mindlessly going to the kitchen to eat. So, every night she would pull a chair over and put it right in front of the refrigerator and drape that dress over it. This way she had to PHYSICALLY MOVE HER DREAMS ASIDE and out of the way in order to get into the fridge.
I’ve never forgotten how powerful that imagery is…is that cookie worth pushing my whole dream aside? Does that extra glass of wine get me closer to my goals or does it push me further away?
So tonight and for the rest of the month, take just that moment to ask yourself “Does this get me closer to my goal or not?” And it’s even okay to ask yourself AFTER that first bite (or two)! You NEVER have to finish something if you don’t want to and give yourself credit for remembering to ask the question at all.
Together we can do this!
